5. Proof of Accommodation

Tip: Book hotels with free cancellation. You can adjust or cancel after your visa is approved. Booking.com and Hotels.com both offer free cancellation on most properties.

6. Flight Itinerary

Important: Do not buy non-refundable flights before your visa is approved. Most consulates accept a reservation or itinerary — you don't need a confirmed ticket.
⚠️ UK Transit Warning for Asian Passport Holders: If you hold a passport from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Philippines, China, or most other Asian countries, you cannot transit through London (Heathrow, Gatwick, etc.) without a UK Transit Visa — even if you're just changing planes and not leaving the airport. A Schengen visa alone is NOT enough. Either book a direct flight to your Schengen destination, transit through a Schengen hub (Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, Istanbul), or apply for a UK Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV) in advance. Getting this wrong means being denied boarding or deported at your own expense.

7. Financial Proof

8. Employment / Status Proof

Depends on your situation:

StatusDocuments Needed
EmployedEmployment letter (stating position, salary, leave approval), last 3 payslips, company registration

StudentEnrollment letter, student ID, parent/guardian's financial proof
RetiredPension statements, bank statements
UnemployedSponsor's documents, affidavit of support

Children 6-12€40
Children under 6Free
VFS/TLS service fee€15-30 (varies by country)
Total typical cost€95-110 per adult

Common Reasons for Rejection

  1. Insufficient financial proof — bank balance too low or no regular income shown
  2. Missing travel insurance or insurance that doesn't meet €30,000 minimum
  3. Weak ties to home country — no employment letter, no property, no family ties
  4. Incomplete application — missing documents or unsigned forms
  5. Previous visa overstay or immigration violations
  6. Photos that don't meet biometric standards
  7. Inconsistent travel dates between documents
Pro tip: The #1 reason for rejection is insufficient proof that you'll return home. Make your ties to your home country crystal clear — employment letter, property documents, family obligations.
