Detailed Requirements
Face and Expression
The photo must show your full face from the front. Keep a neutral expression with mouth closed. Both eyes must be open and clearly visible. The face should take up 70–80% of the photo area.
Background
A plain white background is preferred by Indian passport authorities. Light-colored backgrounds (very light grey or cream) are also accepted. The background must be uniform with no patterns, objects, or shadows.
Glasses and Accessories
Remove glasses if possible. If you must wear prescription glasses, ensure there is no glare or reflection on the lenses. Sunglasses and tinted lenses are not allowed. Remove hats and head coverings unless worn for religious reasons.
OCI Card Photo Requirements
Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card photos follow the same specifications as Indian passport photos: 2×2 inches, white background, front-facing. The photo must be recent (within 6 months) and match your current appearance.
Indian Visa Photo Requirements
Indian tourist and business visa photos also use the 2×2 inch format. The requirements are identical to passport photos. Some consulates may accept 2×2.5 inch photos, but 2×2 is universally accepted.
